You too Brutus is the latest Malayalam movie released in the theaters starring Asif Ali and Rachana Narayankutty in lead roles. The main attraction of this movie is the long star cast including Asif Ali, Rachana Narayankutti, Ena Saha , Honey rose, Vinu mohan, Tovino Thomas and so. The movie is directed by new generation director Roopesh Peethambaran. He was applauded and noticed for his brilliant debutant work ‘Theevram’ starring Dulquer Salman. So the expectation for this film was high and every one was waiting for another different attempt from the director. Could Roopesh turn his second venture into an experimental success? Could he follow the fane of his debutant film in his second venture? Let us find out an answer for the same through this short review.
Synopsis and plot
‘You too Brutus’ was tagged as an all in all comedy entertainer and so the movie tries to bring in laughter. That is something amazingly different from the debutant movie of director ‘Theevram’ which had a serious outlook of revenge. The plot was simple and is based on the life of Abhi and Aparna. The movie is filled with characters and that makes the movie and plot a bit confusing. Could the director convey what he meant to say? That question still remains as the film just ends up confusing everyone. The film seems to be entirely poor work compared to the first film of Roopesh. Now let us analyse different aspects of the film.
Technical aspects And Performance
The film is crisp and short in length. Its running time is just below 2 hours and thanks to the editor for the same. The movie gets unbearable in this short period itself and adding the length would be an injustice to the audience. Direction and script fails big time. Especially a director like Roopesh who got flying colours in the first attempt itself has to be more responsible. The expectation on this director was high and it fails. Cinematography and editing was good and better compared to other technical departments. Songs and Bgm are just average and couldn’t make an impact on the audience.
When we discuss about the performances Tovino Thomas deserves special congrats. He has brought out the best in him and that is one of the biggest plus points of this film. Other actors were just fine and to be frank went low to the expectations. They were nowhere near the benchmark of what they could perform. The script didn’t give chance for the characters to showcase talent and that is something miserable. Anyhow the performances are not worse but they are just ok.
The pros and cons
The only thing that went right would be few performances and comedy one liners. Tovino Thomas stands out as the bright star with his performance. The comedy one liners are good but many went out to be too bad and 18+ jokes. The film is never a choice for the family audience. The movie tried to impress youngsters but fails in that part too. It just seems to be a comedy film with many adult humours. The main negative is a weak script. Script had no idea what was to be put on screen and the movie went to be a big let-down due to the same. 1st half had good portions to be remembered but the second half and climax portions are surely negative.
Conclusion
This one is just an average flick in eyes of T4topten. This one won’t harm you and isn’t that worse. It has got some good humour sequences but for someone who believes in the talent of the director Roopesh, this one is pathetic. This one would be just a non-harmful average flick for the audience and you can go for the same if you don’t mind leaving off some of your time. For others , waiting for the DVD release would be the right choice. This is mad man’s review and our view is always different. Now It’s up to you to rate the movie and don’t forget to post your comments below.
